To members of the University of Sydney Senate,

We are requesting that the Senate immediately adopt the SUPRA Postgraduate Entitlements Policy with a view to establishing an implementation plan by the end of 2007 and University-wide compliance by 2010.

There is currently an enormous discrepancy between the facilities, support and resources postgraduate students at the University of Sydney receive while undertaking their studies. SUPRA, in consultation with postgraduate students, has developed a Postgraduate Entitlements Policy to address these imbalances. We believe all University of Sydney students, whether Coursework or Research, Local or International, full-time or part-time, and regardless of gender, race, (dis)ability, parent/carer responsibilities or any other outward considerations, deserve to receive the resources and rights this policy outlines. We believe that by accepting this policy and providing these entitlements to postgraduate students that the University of Sydney would become the premier destination for postgraduate study in Australia, thus assisting with the University’s strategic goals.

We urge you to consider and adopt this policy to ensure postgraduate students at the University of Sydney can all appreciate the benefits of a high-quality educational environment.
